Mother sun looks down on us ,
ordering every ray to shine.
One by one,the rays spit out the
warmth
that all living creature needs.
But slowly and steady,
the darkness of the moon,
spills over the day,
and now it is night.

I thought
of this poem when I wondered what teachers do in the summer. This was
when I was 8.
THE TEACHERS IN SUMMER
I always wonder,
what teachers do in the summer.
Maybe they ride in a boat or ,
visit a castle with a clear, blue
moat.
Maybe they go to a beach for a
tan,
or maybe they have lots of
homework to plan.
Or maybe they are just like us,
please, just please don't make a
fuss!
ASAVARI, MY MUSIC SCHOOL
Maanasa Chitti
I am Maanasa. I am writing this piece with great pride and about my lessons
in music and involvement with Asavari , a school of Music and Dance located
in White Plains. This school was opened in 1997. I am lucky that I moved
into this locality in 2005. Ever since I came here I am learning Hindustani
classical vocal, Kathak dance and Harmonium. Besides music, language lessons
are also provided by Asavari. I am also learning Hindi.
Gargi aunty is the teacher who teaches music, dance and harmonium.Gargi
aunty is an excellent teacher and choreog-rapher and she herself sings,
dances and plays harmonium beautifully. She is very organized and talented
and expects her students to be always punctual and learn the arts properly.
To be learning from her is at once a pleasure and a challenge.
Rajni aunty takes classes in hindi.
Three concerts are organized annually, in spring, summer and winter. This gives an opportunity for the students to show case their talents. The annual summer concert is coming up in June and I cannot wait for the concert! I am very excited. I would be taking part in singing, dance and harmonium play-ing.
I love my Asavari school.

The rhythm begins...
Messaging my soul to move;
My body creates words,
Creates poetry,
Tells stories.
With every hit on the Tabla...
With every strum on the Sitar...
With every jingle of the bells on my ankles...
My body creates passion,
Revels in the melodies that arise,
I’m awaken...
"Ta Thei Thei
Ta Aa Thei Thei
Ta "
Don’t you hear the sounds?
My body sways...
Mudras flow out of me,
Footwork of my ancestors pours out,
Creating the Teentaal…
I’m invincible...
Shaping the forms of the Gods and Goddesses,
My body creates,
My body responds,
Passionate and brilliant,
I hear one word:
Kathak.
Keshav Choudhary
Kathak is one of the best known dances of India and I am proud to learn
this dance in Asavari School. Me and my classmates have learned many
exciting dances and always love to learn new ones. We have learned many
dances such as The Kalavati Tarana, The Basics, The Ras Rachata, and
are newest dance coming out in June 21st the Kalyan Tarana which has
amazing hand moves and pounding footwork. In my opinion the footwork is
the best part. The Kalavati Tarana is my favorite dance because of the
fast and rhythmic footwork. I love to dance in Asavari School. It is
the best experience in Kathak dancing ever!
